BUCKLINGS / DOELINGS (April 2015 Kids)

The following would make excellent meat animals, brush eaters, breeding stock or companions.  I don't have great individual photos of all our April Kids but hopefully you can get an understanding of what we have and contact me for further information on anyone listed.  We try not to castrate our bucklings until 4-5 months old to allow their urethra to fully form so there is less of a chance for urinary calculi stones in later life. (Obviously we can make any buckling a wether but there will be additional fees to cover the cost.)

ALL SOLD

Homemade Blackberry Cobbler

8.09.2014

Happy Saturday!

Today the girls (Mom, Robin, & KJ) were tasked to load and transport one of our tractors back to the Ranch. This was no small task, especially for us girls, but it was a success and Dad got his tractor back in one piece.

After we loaded the tractor onto the trailer and high-fived each other, we stopped along the road and picked blackberries. At first we were just gonna pick a couple, but 30 minutes later, the whole bucket was full.

What does one do with a 1 gallon tub of blackberries ... ? Make COBBLER. It's Dad's favorite, easy to make, and pretty tasty.

Sadly, we don't have a super secret family recipe that's been passed down 5 generations, but we do have the internet!

You can find the original "Fresh Blackberry Cobbler" recipe here or follow along ...

In a large bowl add:
2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
6 tbsp. cold butter, cut up in cubes
I doubled this part, at first the dough wasn't enough to cover the fruit  in the dish, so I made another batch *

Mix it up, real good

Pour 1/4 cup boilin' hot water over the flour mixture
Stir it to make the dough

Put the bowl aside & move to the berries ...

In a saucepan, dissolve:
2 tbsp Cornstarch
1/4 cup Cold Water

Once you've dissolved the Cornstarch mix add:
 4 cups of washed Blackberries
1/2 cup sugar
1 tbsp Lemon Juice

Turn the heat up & bring this mixture to a boil
Don't forget to stir frequently so it doesn't burn!
~
Once the berries start to boil, pull it from the heat & pour it into your pan.
Spoon in the dough mixture on top of the hot berries

Pop this baby into the oven at 400* to bake for 25 - 30 minutes

Golden Brown perfection!

~

Add a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream and eat it up!

Also, this cobbler was Dad approved!

~

Now, what to do with the rest of the blackberries ... ?
I pulled out a cookie pan, lined it with wax paper & spread out the blackberries to freeze for later.

Now we're cooking with peanut oil!

Lime

8.06.2014

Wilco Farm Supply in Chehalis, Wash. came to lime 30 acres of the Ranch today.

Liming raises the acid level of the soil and aligns the PH balance in order to produce a better crop next hay season.
